In short

What you pay
| Fee | Amount | When |
|---|---|---|
| Joining, listing, monthly | $0 | Never |
| Rooted commission | 5% of the item price | Only when you make a sale |
| Stripe processing fee | Set by Stripe (in the US, typically 2.9% + $0.30 per card payment) | Only when you make a sale |
The 5% commission is calculated on the item price only, not on shipping or sales tax.
Example: a $40 sale
| Item price | $40.00 |
| Rooted commission (5%) | − $2.00 |
| Stripe processing fee (approx.) | − $1.46 |
| You receive | ≈ $36.54 |
The Stripe fee shown is an estimate. The exact amount depends on the payment method and appears in your Stripe Express dashboard.
What’s included
- Your own branded storefront and listings for products and services
- Secure checkout and payments through Stripe
- Shipping labels bought for you and emailed to you
- Bot and fraud protection at checkout
- Opportunities to be featured on Rooted’s blog, newsletter and social media
Shipping labels
The shipping cost the customer pays at checkout goes to Rooted, and we use it to buy the shipping label for the order. As soon as it’s bought, the label is emailed to you and added to the order in your vendor dashboard, so you just pack the order and drop it off. Tracking updates automatically, and you never pay for labels yourself.
When you get paid
- Ship the order and mark it completed in your dashboard.
- Your earnings are released 14 days later. This window covers returns and payment disputes.
- Stripe sends the money to your bank on its normal payout schedule, usually within a few business days.
Refunds and chargebacks
If you refund an order, or a customer’s bank reverses a payment (a chargeback), the refunded amount comes out of your earnings for that order, or from future payouts if it has already been paid. Stripe may not return its processing fee on refunds.
Taxes
You’re responsible for your own income taxes. Stripe may issue a 1099-K tax form where US law requires it. Sales tax is calculated at checkout where required.
Changes to fees
If we ever change our fees, we’ll email all vendors at least 30 days before the change takes effect.
